• Previous experience of veterinary care work
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• The ability to demonstrate teamwork with veterinary, animal centre and Inspectorate colleagues

• Full manual driving licence (Travelling off site when needed)

• An NVQ Level 2 in Animal Care or equivalent e.g. VCA, ANA.

• A genuine interest in animal welfare is essential. This role requires empathy and a deep commitment to the Society's charitable objectives.

• Good administrative and IT skills are needed for documentation, record-keeping, and operating the reception area.

As our Receptionist, who will admit and initially triage wildlife, are the first friendly face a nervous rescue animal sees when their journey begins. We are looking for a new team member as a Vet Surgeon to join us at our Manchester Animal Hospital and surrounding areas on a permanent contract.

• Working hours: 35 hours / Mon - Friday with some on call overnight and weekend shifts (approx 1 in 6/7 rota). 
• Onsite role: Manchester Animal Hospital - Your role would also include regular offsite work, travelling to our other Animal Centres/Hospitals.

Our expert team at Greater Manchester Animal Hospital provide life saving veterinary care to thousands of animals rescued by RSPCA frontline officers. They also provide vital support to rescued animals being cared for at RSPCA centres. We do not provide treatment for people's pets.

You will be responsible for overseeing the rehabilitation of injured/ill strays and victims of cruelty and neglect and demonstrating competence across veterinary disciplines, 

You will also be responsible for:

• Dentistry
• Neutering and other soft tissue surgery
• Shelter medicine
• Some sole charge
• Participating in off site work around once a week for shelter medicine work with our local branches and centres.
• Implementing RSPCA policies in regards to the re-homability of animals including decision making on individual cases
• Welfare support work for the RSPCA Inspectorate

• Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
• Interest or previous experience in shelter medicine
• A pragmatic welfare oriented approach
• Happy to handle dogs, cats, small furries and possibly bird and wildlife initial triage (although not expected to be an expert on wildlife)

We take a holistic and team-based approach to individual animal treatment and recognise the importance of committing as much time as we can to focussing on the welfare of the animals that come into our care. This means that you get to work with some amazing, passionate, and supportive team members to focus on what is best for the animals you see. 

As part of that team, you will be:

• Treating companion animals based on shelter principles.

• Supporting your team through regular one to ones, appraisals, and inductions to keep morale and standards high.

• Ensuring safety is upheld through regular audits and risk assessments.

Essential

• A solid background in wildlife care, including handling, assessment, and first aid skills.
• Experience managing or supervising people whether that's a paid team, volunteers, or students.
• An understanding of British wildlife identification (including tracks and signs) and the ability to manage complex rehab cases from admission to release.

The role of Senior Project Manager within the RSPCA is varied; working on the Estate Transformation Programme you will be delivering change; enabling our teams to deliver the best long term outcome for animals. This role will involve driving changes to estate provision, people, processes and ways of working to improve overall performance and achieve strategic goals. The ideal candidate will have experience in estate transformation and managing projects through all project life cycle phases; with exceptional stakeholder management, engagement and governance experience and skills. 

You will also control and report on project deliverables, progress against milestones, budget, resources, risks and issues in accordance with the project governance framework that we already have in place.

You will be focused on continuous improvement and on delivering projects within the agreed timescales and budgets. 

The projects you will manage will be significant in scale and business impact, and there may be a requirement to manage a number of projects concurrently.

To succeed within this role, it is essential that you have proven estate development and delivery experience working on projects worth between £2m to  £20m.  Working with internal and external stakeholder groups, across a variety of areas of expertise. 

We are keen to receive applications from those with a Project Management qualification, such as Prince, APM or equivalent. 

You must have proven relationship building skills, particularly with key senior stakeholders, and a collaborative approach.

At Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre and Cattery, no two days are the same. You'll work as part of a passionate, supportive team, helping animals at every stage of their care. Typical tasks include:

• Treating wild, exotic, and domestic animals in RSPCA care.
• Managing a diverse caseload including seals, swans, falcons, bats, pigeons, and swifts – over 120 species admitted annually.
• Performing a wide range of surgical and medical interventions.
• Providing veterinary input for welfare prosecution cases (training provided).
• Supporting the cattery with routine surgical procedures, including neutering and dental work.
• Theatre work will also include neuterings of ferrets and rabbits.
• Teaching the veterinary professionals of the future forms part of our remit, and you will be involved in teaching and training of students on a regular basis.
• You will be involved in full case continuity, from admission and triage through to rehabilitation and release (or rehoming). The role also provides opportunities to collaborate with other RSPCA veterinary teams.

Personal attributes are more important to us than experience. The ideal candidate would be keen to work and keen to learn, be able to use evidence based veterinary medicine principles to direct their case work. They would bring enthusiasm for wildlife medicine, a 'can-do' attitude and be able to justify their clinical decision making process to the clinical team. Most importantly we need someone who can work well as part of a close knit team.

Essential:

• Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).
• Legal right to work in the UK (we are unable to sponsor visas).
• Ability to work safely and efficiently under time pressures, particularly during seasonal peaks (May through to October).
• Confidence with basic feline medicine and surgery

Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre is open 7 days a week, and takes in over 4000 wild and domestic animals each year.  On site we have specialist facilities and resources to support the work we do. Our dedicated wildlife assistants provide expert care for the diverse species we see, from pigeons and bats to seal cubs and foxes.

Our clinical team is responsible for the veterinary care of the animals we serve, and our Veterinary Nurses hold a critical role in offering specialist clinical support to the team. 

Why this role matters:
Our Veterinary Nurses are essential to the smooth running of the Centre. You'll provide hands-on care, support surgical procedures, and contribute to animal welfare in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 

Working hours:

• Shifts are ad hoc during the week and weekends.

Our clinical team is responsible for the veterinary care of the animals we serve, and our Veterinary Nurses hold a critical role in offering specialist clinical support to the team. 

Why this role matters:
Our Veterinary Nurses are essential to the smooth running of the Centre. You'll provide hands-on care, support surgical procedures, and contribute to animal welfare in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 

Working hours:

•  22.5 per week. This currently Wed, Fri and Sat shifts 7.5hrs / day.  2 late shifts in four weeks (subject to change) 

• Providing direct medical and surgical patient care.
  Monitoring anaesthesia, perioperative nursing, and theatre practice.
• Maintaining accurate, up-to-date clinical records.
• Dispensing drugs following professional guidelines and clinic rules.
  Upholding high standards of clinical hygiene and biosecurity.
• Supporting training for student vets and nurses, and contributing to CPD for the team.
• Participating in continuing professional development.
• Supporting welfare and case work.

• Fully qualified Veterinary Nurse with current RCVS registration.
• Proven experience in veterinary practice, wildlife rehabilitation, or animal care.
• Ideally located within an easy commutable distance of the centre, within 20 minutes for on call purposes.

We are looking for a new team member as a Senior Scientific and Policy Officer (SSPO) to lead our work on aquaculture, where you will work with a dedicated team of other leading farm animal welfare experts. 

One of the key roles of the SSPO Aquaculture is lead responsibility for the development of the RSPCA's higher welfare standards for Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout. These standards have impact both nationally and internationally, including under the RSPCA's own farm assurance scheme - RSPCA Assured. 

It is a key role within the Farm Animals Department, which is within the RSPCA's Science and Policy Group.

Working hours: 35 hours per week - Monday to Friday. 

Hybrid role: You will work from home and, on occasion, from the RSPCAs office in Horsham, West Sussex: the expected commitment is at least one day per month in our Horsham office. 

Contract: Permanent

The post holder will be required to have a full, valid UK driving license. 

Aquaculture is one of the fastest growing farmed animal sectors in the UK, yet it remains largely unregulated. Without a specific legal framework for the farming or slaughter of farmed fish, these animals need a champion - that champion is you.

As our SSPO Aquaculture, you will be driving tangible change and leading the way in farmed fish welfare within the world's oldest animal welfare charity.

A key part of the role is also to provide a support function to RSPCA Assured, as you will support the scheme for the assurance of both salmon and trout. 

Without this work, the standards for these species would cease to exist, leaving millions of animals without a "voice" and the industry without a benchmark for excellence.

Your impact will include:

• Defining Excellence: You will write and evolve the welfare standards that dictate how salmon and trout are raised and treated - ensuring they are leading the way and spearheading positive change.
• High Level Advocacy: You will represent the RSPCA in Parliament, at international conferences, and in the media.
• Industry Transformation: You will proactively engage with key retailers, governments, likeminded NGOs and other key stakeholders to push the boundaries of what is possible in fish welfare.
• Thought Leadership: You will provide technical expertise to key stakeholders nationally and internationally, including Eurogroup for Animals. 

Innovation: You will explore new technologies and opportunities to ensure the RSPCA remains at the front edge of improving the lives of farmed fish.

We are looking for a visionary who is equally at home on a farm as they are presenting to policymakers. The post holder must be highly driven, determined, passionate, self motivated, and have a ‘change the world' mentality. We are looking for someone who genuinely wants to make a significant impact and a large, lasting change to the lives of farmed aquatic animals. 

To be successful within this role, you must have:

• A high level of farmed fish production and welfare knowledge.
• Hands-on experience of working with farm animals in a commercial environment. 
• Project management experience.
• Experience of developing standards.
• Excellent communication, relationship and influencing skills.
• Experience of presenting to the media, government bodies, and at large scale conferences.
• The ability to navigate internal and external challenges with a self-motivated, "world-changing" mindset.
