Application questions

Essential criteria: Some positions have eligibility requirements that applicants must meet. Please read the job description carefully and provide accurate, relevant information about how you meet the criteria. Honesty and attention to detail are definitely key!

We may ask questions through the application to showcase your talent and passion for making a difference by sharing your past experiences. To construct compelling responses, consider using the STAR method: it provides a simple yet powerful way to explain how you handled specific situations and challenges in the past.

We are really lucky that some of our roles attract a high level of interest and for this reason we review applications as they are received. Unfortunately on some occasions this means roles may close earlier than advertised, so early submissions are highly recommended

Our email address is: resourcingteam@rspca.org.uk or you can call us on: 0300 1230 685

Or you can complete this form

The recruitment process varies depending on the position and this could include:

  • Interviews
  • Assessment centres
  • Presentations
  • Role-related testing
  • Animal handling and behaviour exercises for animal-related roles.

We will clearly communicate the interview format in the invitations to ensure transparency throughout the process

You will receive an automated email confirming your application once submitted. Our team reviews all applications, so expect an update within two to three weeks. If you have not heard back after three weeks, please email: resourcingteam@rspca.org.uk We appreciate your patience as we work through applications and will notify you of your status as soon as possible

Unfortunately, we cannot interview all applicants due to the high volume of interest, and there may be candidates more qualified for the role. While we would like to provide feedback to each applicant, it is not feasible given the number of submissions

The STAR method is a structured manner of responding to a behavioural-based interview question by discussing the specific situation, task, action, and result of the situation you are describing.

  • Situation: Describe the situation that you were in or the task that you needed to accomplish. You must describe a specific event or situation, not a generalised description of what you have done in the past. Be sure to give enough detail for the interviewer to understand. This situation can be from a previous job, from a volunteer experience, or any relevant event.
  • Task: What goal were you working toward?
  • Action: Describe the actions you took to address the situation with an appropriate amount of detail and keep the focus on YOU. What specific steps did you take and what was your particular contribution? Be careful that you don’t describe what the team or group did when talking about a project, but what you actually did. Use the word “I,” not “we” when describing actions.
  • Result: Describe the outcome of your actions and don’t be shy about taking credit for your behaviour. What happened? How did the event end? What did you accomplish? What did you learn? Make sure your answer contains multiple positive results. Make sure that you follow all parts of the STAR method. Be as specific as possible

A member of our talent team will contact you when we make an offer to mutually agree on a start date that works for both of us.
