Animal Care Assistant (3013)
Do you want to help create a better world for animals? At the RSPCA, we believe animal welfare is everyone's welfare. Join us in creating a better world for every animal. We can do it if we work together, everyone for every animal.
We are looking for an Animal Care Assistant. You will be working as part of the animal care team at our Block Fen Animal Centre located in Wimblington, Nr March, Cambridgeshire.
We are located in the beautiful, rural fens, and was established in 2003 to support the work of our frontline Animal Rescue Officers and Inspectors.
We provide a space for the rehabilitation of hundreds of animals, from dogs and cats to small furries and the occasional farm animal, with the eventual aim of finding them a forever home.
- Working hours: Full time 18 month FTC
- Interview dates: Week commencing 22nd April
Are you ready to be part of our journey and make a difference?
You can find out more about the work we do at the centre by visiting our social media pages:
We think this role's going to be popular and are expecting to attract high interest so we strongly encourage early applications to avoid missing out - closing date is 10th April 2026.
Here at RSPCA we know it's a cliche but no two days are the same, as an Animal Care Assistant we've added a short summary of what a typical day might look like.
Join the largest animal welfare charity in England and Wales and help transform the lives of animals rescued from cruelty, abuse and neglect.
As an Animal Care Assistant, you'll provide daily care, feeding, cleaning and exercise for animals, ensuring their comfort and wellbeing. You'll monitor behaviour and health, give prescribed treatments, and support behaviour plans under the guidance of our Behaviour and Welfare Advisors.
Once animals are ready for rehoming, you'll help match them with new owners and offer post-adoption advice and support.
This is a physically demanding but deeply rewarding role where you'll make a real difference every day.
- Experience working with animals, either through paid or voluntary work (not including your own pets).
- Resilience - many of the animals in our care have been victims of neglect and/or cruelty.
- Willing to undertake practical work outdoors in all weather.
- Excellent communication and team working skills - you'll be working with colleagues across the RSPCA, volunteers and members of the public.
- Able to multitask and work under pressure - working with animals can be busy and unpredictable!
- Comfortable with using IT - you'll be keeping computerised records on the animals under your care.
- We are located in a rural area with limited public transport. It is therefore important you have your own means of transport to travel to and from work.
Successful candidates for certain RSPCA roles will need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK - We are unable to sponsor visas at RSPCA
We want to ensure we do all we can to give you a positive candidate experience through our recruitment. Whilst we do try to give feedback where we can, sometimes due to receiving high levels of applications, this may not always be possible
We are building the future of a diverse Society, and our priority is to support animal welfare by finding people from all backgrounds who are committed to our mission. For this reason we actively encourage a wide diversity of applications - in particular from members of minority ethnic groups, and people with disabilities - as these candidates are currently under-represented at the RSPCA. Your transferable skills & lived experiences could make you a valuable addition to our RSPCA Family!
We're here to support you and encourage you to let us know if you need any adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process. Please feel free to contact us at resourcingteam@rspca.org.uk or 0300 123 0685 so we can ensure the process works for you.
