What a day might look like for you

As our Business Change Lead, you will be the strategic architect of the RSPCA's transformation journey, ensuring that organisational shifts are handled with empathy, precision, and purpose. You will balance high-level portfolio strategy with hands-on leadership, seamlessly bridging the gap between technical delivery and the people who make our mission possible.. You will act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders and a mentor to your team, all while fostering a culture where change is not just managed, but embraced across the entire society.  You will also build our change capability across our wider leadership team, supporting leaders to deliver, embed and champion well-managed and empathetic change.

Key Responsibilities and Activities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Designing and implementing a pragmatic, RSPCA wide change management approach that ensures all transformational outcomes are realised.
  • Portfolio Coordination: Maintaining a big picture view of all ongoing changes to understand the impact on key stakeholders, and make recommendations to sequence change activities effectively.
  • Team Management: Leading and deploying business change resources to meet the shifting demands of various transformation programmes.
  • Capability development:  Embedding good change management practices across wider leadership
  • Stakeholder Advocacy: Building strong relationships with sponsors and business owners to champion best practices and ensure change approaches are proportionate.
  • Governance and Oversight: Supporting key forums, such as a Change Board, to coordinate activities both within and outside the formal transformation portfolio.
  • Framework Development: Creating the guidance, templates, and toolkits necessary for consistent and effective change delivery across the organisation.
  • Network Building: Developing and managing a robust network of change agents to drive engagement and adoption at the grassroots level.
  • Assessment and Readiness: Overseeing change impact and readiness assessments to ensure the organisation is prepared for upcoming shifts.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration: Partnering with Communications, People and Culture, and Learning and Development to create inspiring engagement materials and deliver coaching or training.
  • Adaptive Delivery: Navigating tight deadlines and competing priorities across multiple complex projects with flexibility and resilience.
What will help you succeed in this role:

You can find the full person specification on the attached job description but in a nutshell, in order to succeed within this role, you must have hands on change management experience - actually landing the change and not just knowing the theory behind it.

This experience must have been within a large scale change project or programme, which involved complex stakeholder management and which saw you influence a broad range of stakeholders.

You must also have the ability to work successfully with a wide variety of teams across a large and complex organisation, tailoring your messaging to specific audiences.

It is essential that you also have the following:

  • Certification to practitioner level in an industry standard change management methodology
  • Significant experience in delivering large-scale business change in complex organisations
  • Knowledge of and experience in applying change management principles, methodologies and tools
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to flex style and content to suit the audience
  • Experience in completing key project documentation relating to change, e.g. change impact assessments, business readiness assessments, training needs analysis etc
  • Familiarity with project management approaches (including Waterfall and Agile), tools and phases of the project lifecycle

Successful candidates for certain RSPCA roles will need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK - We are unable to sponsor visas at RSPCA

Final note from us & good luck with your application!

We want to ensure we do all we can to give you a positive candidate experience through our recruitment. Whilst we do try to give feedback where we can, sometimes due to receiving high levels of applications, this may not always be possible

We are building the future of a diverse Society, and our priority is to support animal welfare by finding people from all backgrounds who are committed  to our mission.  For this reason we actively encourage a wide diversity of applications - in particular from members of minority ethnic groups, and people with disabilities - as these candidates are currently under-represented at the RSPCA. Your transferable skills & lived experiences could make you a valuable addition to our RSPCA Family!

We're here to support you and encourage you to let us know if you need any adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process. Please feel free to contact us at resourcingteam@rspca.org.uk or 0300 123 0685 so we can ensure the process works for you.
