We are looking for a new team member to join us as a Legacy Officer.

Legacy gifts play a vital role in funding the RSPCA and account for more than half of the society's income. By joining our team, you will play an integral part in helping to ensure this vital source of income continues, helping us rescue and care for animals every day.

  • Working hours: 28 hours / Monday – Friday
  • Hybrid role: Your base will be at Horsham, West Sussex, or our London Hub in Blackfriars. The expectation for this role will include a strong focus on remote working, with occasional trips to our South East Regional Hub in Horsham for core collaboration. 

It's important to us that you feel part of our team from the start. We like to keep in touch with regular check-ins and team meetings, and there's always a teammate around for support or a quick chat.

What a day might look like for you

It's an exciting time to join us in the decade of our bicentenary as we focus on our Strategy to 2030. The RSPCA works 365 days a year, rescuing all animals of all types from abuse, neglect, and injury. 

Here's some of the key work you'll be doing: 

  • Managing a large caseload of residuary and life interest case files.
  • Proactive involvement in property and other asset sales.
  • Checking, approving or querying Estate Accounts, ensuring correct funds are received and if not, investigating the matter.
  • Management of a caseload of cases where the RSPCA is Executor, Administrator or Trustee, under guidance from the Senior Legacy Officers.
  • Ensuring legacies are correctly allocated in accordance with the wishes expressed in the will.
  • Ensuring that all incoming correspondence is dealt with in accordance with team KPI's.
  • Identify stories and information which will help the RSPCA promote the benefits of legacy giving.
  • To become involved in other ad hoc tasks as required
What will help you succeed in this role:

  • Previous experience working as a Legacy Officer or in Estate Administration.
  • Strong understanding of probate laws, wills, trusts, and estate administration.
  • Exercise sound professional judgement in decision making, especially where there is a financial implication. 
  • Self motivated with the ability to work individually and as part of a team. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy and to be empathetic.
  • Highly organised approach to work and the ability to manage a demanding caseload.
  • High awareness of reputational issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.Postgraduate degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to assess risk and profitability.

Successful candidates for certain RSPCA roles will need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
