We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our team as a part-time Nursing Team Leader. This is a vital leadership role focused on education and training within the nursing team, ensuring we continue to deliver exceptional standards of clinical care across our services.

  • Working hours: 17.5 hours per week. This is a Part time role.
  • Your base will be at the Finsbury Park Animal Hospital. We live the values, expectation for this role will be 2 and a half days per week and this is open to flex around you and the operation

What a day might look like for you

As a Nursing Team Leader (Training), you will be responsible for identifying and addressing the training and development needs of our nursing staff. You'll work closely with another part-time NTL (Training), as well as the Nursing Manager, to plan and implement a structured and effective approach to education and skill-building across the team. Your focus will be on mentoring, coaching, and empowering our nurses and veterinary care assistants to grow professionally and deliver top-tier patient care.

Your work will combine clinical duties with protected leadership and administrative time, allowing you to manage responsibilities such as staff induction, CPD planning, and mentorship of students and newly qualified nurses. You will be instrumental in maintaining our status as a Training Practice, ensuring compliance with audits and supporting Student Veterinary Nurses (SVNs) throughout their learning journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Nursing Manager to assess and implement training plans and CPD for the nursing team, using tools such as a skills matrix to identify gaps.
  • Support the onboarding and induction of new nursing staff, including RVNs, SVNs, VCAs, and HAs, ensuring all necessary training and documentation is completed.
  • Provide clinical supervision and ensure all training aligns with RCVS standards, including appropriate delegation of Schedule 3 procedures based on student progress.
  • Line-manage a small team, offering coaching, regular feedback, and development support.
  • Oversee the maintenance of Training Practice approval and ensure compliance with associated audits.
  • Champion a culture of evidence-based veterinary nursing and continuous improvement within the team.
What you'll bring:

We are looking for a qualified RVN with at least two years' post-qualification experience, ideally with prior mentoring or clinical supervision experience. 

  • You will be a confident communicator, well-organised, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative leadership team. 
  • A passion for teaching and developing others is essential, as is a strong commitment to animal welfare and clinical excellence.
