Our recruitment journey - Key dates

Application deadline: - Friday 13 February 2026

As part of your application, you'll answer two short questions to help us understand your experience, skills, and potential.
You don't need to meet every requirement - we're far more interested in what you can bring, how you learn, and how you align with our values.

Panel interviews: - Friday 20 February or Wednesday 25 February 2026

If shortlisted, you'll meet with the Hiring Manager and Network Administrator in a welcoming, supportive panel interview. This is your chance to:

  • Share your experiences and achievements
  • Ask questions about the role, team and impact
  • Show how your skills and values shine in real-life situations
What a day might look like for you

For a full overview, please see the attached job description. In this role, no two days are the same - but all are meaningful.

You'll:

  • Provide a safe, calm and nurturing environment for cats at the centre
  • Ensure their physical, emotional and behavioural needs are met
  • Work closely with adopters and fosterers, carrying out checks and matching each cat with the most suitable home
  • Support cats through recovery, rehabilitation and rehoming journeys

A significant part of the role is administration-based, and there will be periods of lone working. You'll also travel regularly to visit fosterers, veterinary hospitals and other centres.

This work can be physically and emotionally demanding, but it is also incredibly rewarding knowing your care directly changes lives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing daily care for animals housed in the RSPCA rehoming unit
  • Engaging with the public via phone, email and in person
  • Promoting animals available for adoption in-store and on social media
  • Coordinating and supporting a network of foster carers
  • Arranging and facilitating veterinary care, including transport to and from hospital

As part of your training, you must complete an on-road driving assessment conducted by a professional driver training provider.

What will help you succeed in this role:

Essential

  • A full UK manual driving licence
  • Willingness to travel and work flexibly
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, solutions-focused mindset
  • Compassion and empathy, paired with clear and confident communication
  • Ability to work independently within established guidelines
  • Confidence conducting home visits and engaging with people in their own environments
  • Skill in handling sensitive or difficult conversations with professionalism and care
  • Basic computer literacy and administrative skills

Desirable

  • Experience working with domestic animals through volunteering, education or employment

If you've gained relevant skills in other sectors - such as care, customer service, community work or administration - we strongly encourage you to apply.

Successful candidates for certain RSPCA roles will need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK - We are unable to sponsor visas at RSPCA

Final note from us & good luck with your application!

We want to ensure we do all we can to give you a positive candidate experience through our recruitment. Whilst we do try to give feedback where we can, sometimes due to receiving high levels of applications, this may not always be possible

We are building the future of a diverse Society, and our priority is to support animal welfare by finding people from all backgrounds who are committed  to our mission.  For this reason we actively encourage a wide diversity of applications - in particular from members of minority ethnic groups, and people with disabilities - as these candidates are currently under-represented at the RSPCA. Your transferable skills & lived experiences could make you a valuable addition to our RSPCA Family!

We're here to support you and encourage you to let us know if you need any adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process. Please feel free to contact us at resourcingteam@rspca.org.uk or 0300 123 0685 so we can ensure the process works for you.
