We are looking for a Senior Finance Officer to join us on a 12 month fixed term contract to cover a period of maternity leave on a part time basis, working as part of the Finance team.

Contract: 12 month fixed term contract, starting mid July. 

Working hours: 30 hours - Monday - Friday. 

Hybrid role: You will work from home and also from the Horsham offices as necessary. Applicants must be living within a commutable distance to Horsham, West Sussex. 

What a day might look like for you

Reporting to the Finance Operations Lead, the Senior Finance Officer will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and Sales Ledger/Credit Control functions, while also providing valuable support to our Treasury and Income Team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to utilise your expertise and contribute to a supportive and collaborative finance function.

While reporting to the Team Leader, you will take ownership of key responsibilities, including:

  • Being the first point of contact for the Finance Operations teams, offering guidance and support to team members and escalating complex issues as needed.
  • Supporting the Finance Operations Lead in ensuring the effective delivery of departmental duties within set deadlines.
  • Managing the end-to-end processing of requisitions, purchase orders, purchase invoices, credit notes, sales orders, and invoices with meticulous accuracy.
  • Maintaining impeccable financial records in strict adherence to organisational and tax authority requirements, ensuring all payment approvals are correctly documented for audit purposes.
  • Facilitating seamless communication across various Finance functions to support the overall efficiency of the Finance Operations Team.
  • Executing twice-monthly supplier payment runs via BACS with exceptional precision, drawing on your strong data entry skills.
  • Overseeing and generating manual ad hoc payments, ensuring adherence to correct processes at all times.
  • Maintaining ledger reporting and undertaking regular maintenance, including the monthly production and investigation of the aged creditor listing, and resolving overdue invoices and unallocated payments.
  • Preparing and reconciling ledger balances, control accounts, and statements on a monthly basis, ensuring accuracy and identifying any discrepancies.
  • Identifying, correcting, or escalating any errors or accounting discrepancies to the Finance Operations Lead.
  • Providing timely and accurate supplier cost information in the required formats to relevant stakeholders.
  • Compiling data and reporting on expenditure to support informed decision-making and management planning.
  • Actively supporting the line manager with improvement projects related to systems, processes, policies, and procedures, contributing your valuable insights.
What you'll bring:

To be successful in the role of Senior Finance Officer, it is essential that you have:

  • A solid understanding of the full Purchase-to-Pay (P2P) process.
  • Strong customer service skills with a commitment to providing excellent support.
  • Great communication skills in the English language, enabling you to build positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • A highly motivated approach, allowing you to thrive in a remote work environment while also enjoying virtual and in person team connections.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the proven ability to multi-task effectively across several work streams simultaneously.
  • Experience in high volume processing and a proven knowledge of inter-company transactions.
  • An understanding of Funds and Grants and of the correct treatment of VAT for the Charity sector.
  • Recent working experience in a financial function, along with proficient computer processing skills.
  • Proven experience of working in a transaction processing function and experience of customer service.
