We're looking for a Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA) to join our Veterinary team at our Birmingham Animal Hospital (Newbrook), reporting into one of our Nursing Team Leaders.
Interviews are expected to take place on 9th and 10th October.
- Working hours: 35 hours per week, this is on shift basis including weekends over a 10 week rolling rota
- Day shifts 8:00am - 3:30pm
- Evening shifts 2:30pm - 10:00pm
- Nights 10:00pm - 8:00am
- Site based: You will be based at our Animal Hospital in Newbrook.
- 4 % shift allowance in addition to the wage range specified.
- Night shift allowance (0.33% of supplement for night shifts worked.
Birmingham Animal Hospital is located in a charming rural setting amongst 70 acres of countryside, but has excellent motorway access, and is 20 minutes drive from central Birmingham. It consists of a friendly and enthusiastic team of seven Vet Surgeons, twenty RVNs and nine Support Staff. The Hospital itself is nice and spacious with modern facilities, and equipment.
The Management team are extremely passionate about personal growth, and are always striving to nurture a thriving environment.
The hospital works directly to help animals most in need by supporting the work of the RSPCA's Inspectors, animal centres and branches, providing essential veterinary care around the clock.

- Undertaking nursing duties including patient care, theatre practice, assisting with consultations and general reception duties as directed.
- General cleaning duties throughout the hospital including equipment, animal quarters and premises.
- Maintaining up to date and accurate clinical records for every animal that comes into the hospital.
- Dispensing drugs in accordance with professional guidelines and hospital rules.

- Previous experience of veterinary care work.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to demonstrate teamwork with veterinary animal centre and Inspectorate colleagues.
- Self-motivation and an ability to manage your own time.
- An NVQ Level 2 in Animal Care or equivalent e.g. VCA, ANA is desirable.
Successful candidates for certain RSPCA roles will need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
