We are looking for a new Veterinary Nurse  at our East Winch Wildlife Centre (Norfolk) who is enthusiastic about wildlife conservation, enjoys hands-on work with animals, and is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of British wildlife.   • Working hours: 17.5 (0.5FTE). Shifts are undertaken on a rota basis between 07:55 to 22:30.

The role

As a Veterinary Nurse at East Winch, you'll develop and deliver high quality, welfare focused care plans for a range of species, ensuring adherence to the RSPCA's biosecurity protocols. This includes clinical tasks such as wound management and fluid therapy, as well as administering and dispensing medication, including where necessary, euthanasia, in line with current veterinary clinical guidelines and legislation.

The role also includes theatre nursing where you'll prepare and maintain the surgical environment, instruments and equipment, monitor anaesthesia and provide perioperative and critical nursing care. The role includes a mixture of clinical and husbandry tasks,  working on shift, with a focus on the husbandry of the patients (e.g. feeding/cleaning etc).

What we are looking for in you

Essential:

  • RVN: Current registration with RCVS (preceded by prerequisite of degree or diploma in veterinary nursing);
  • Previous experience of working in relevant discipline (Veterinary Practice, Wildlife Rehabilitation, Animal Centre)

Desirable:

  • Clinical Supervisor (e.g. Clinical Coach, A1 Assessor Award) qualification specific to Vet Nurse Training;
  • Further/higher professional qualification (certificate, degree) in relevant discipline e.g. clinical, zoology, behaviour, rehabilitation;
  • Shelter/Charity veterinary experience.

This role will include humanely euthanising some wild animals when necessary, so it is important that you are comfortable to be able to do this.The successful applicant will be required to undergo a Disclosure & Barring Service (or other relevant body) check before employment is confirmed.
