Veterinary Surgeon (2412)
Do you want to create a better world for animals? At the RSPCA, we believe all animals deserve kindness and respect. We work for the benefit of every animal – as well as pets, that includes farmed animals, wildlife, and animals used in science. Choose a career with us and make a difference for every kind.
We are looking for a new team member as a Veterinary Surgeon on a permanent basis.
Working hours: 35 hours per week.
Our Vet Surgeons work on an 8 week on-call rota basis for out of hours and weekends.
Contract: Permanent
Location: Finsbury Park Animal Hospital. The RSPCA Finsbury Park Animal Hospital is a busy veterinary hospital located in Finsbury Park in London.
We think this role's going to be popular and are expecting to attract high interest so we strongly encourage early applications to avoid missing out - closing date is the 29th of July.
We take a holistic and team-based approach to individual animal treatment and recognise the importance of committing as much time as we can to focussing on the welfare of the animals that come into our care. This means that you get to work with some amazing, passionate, and supportive team members to focus on what is best for the animals you see.
As part of that team, you will be:
- Performing consultation and medical treatment of animals according to RCVS standards as a qualified member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
- Treating companion animals based on shelter principles.
- Undertaking a wide variety of surgical and medical interventions for the animals in our care.
- Providing veterinary opinion and support for welfare prosecution cases.
- Inputting on the development and implementation of RSPCA policies relating to wild animal rehabilitation and care, including following a structured decision-making process (training will be provided)
- Supporting the wider veterinary sector with advice and guidance.
We're looking for a pragmatic Vet with experience working in a charity or shelter medicine environment.
Additionally you will need:
- Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
- Previous clinical experience and/or additional qualifications.
- Experience of orthopaedic work in companion animals would be advantageous.
- The ability to work efficiently, safely and well under time pressures.
Successful candidates for certain RSPCA roles will need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK - We are unable to sponsor visas at RSPCA
Interviews will be held from the 11th of August onwards.
We want to ensure we do all we can to give you a positive candidate experience through our recruitment. Whilst we do try to give feedback where we can, sometimes due to receiving high levels of applications, this may not always be possible
We are building the future of a diverse Society, and our priority is to support animal welfare by finding people from all backgrounds who are committed to our mission. For this reason we actively encourage a wide diversity of applications - in particular from members of minority ethnic groups, and people with disabilities - as these candidates are currently under-represented at the RSPCA. Your transferable skills & lived experiences could make you a valuable addition to our RSPCA Family!
Should you need any support with your application or interview process please contact resourcingteam@rspca.org.uk / 0300 123 0685.
