A bit about us

2024 is a big year for us as we turn 200 years young! We are proud of our long standing history in campaigning for a better world for animal  welfare. We were the first to introduce a law to protect animals and have been working hard ever since  to ensure that all animals can live free from pain and suffering. Through our campaigns we raise standards of care, and awareness of issues, affecting animals today. Our vision is to one day live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion. And that is what we work towards every day.

We are now recruiting for an Integrated Design Manager - Data Specialist to work within our Strategy and Transformation department.

This is a 24 month fixed term contract position, for 35 hours per week and will be offered on a hybrid working contract, so you will be based at home with some travel around England and Wales for key meetings and collaboration. Our main hubs are our London office in Blackfriars and our West Sussex office, in Horsham.

Are you ready to be part of our journey and make a difference?

To support the delivery of our bold 2023 strategy, Together for Animal Welfare, we need a Data Specialist to join our team of Integrated Design Managers to provide expertise in designing and developing our future vision for the use of Data and Insight at the RSPCA.

This year, the journey will start by defining that Society-wide vision and offer for Data & Insight. Your expertise could help us to shape that ambition and turn it into a reality, enabling the Society to become an evidence informed organisation aligned to our strategy.

Sitting within the Integrated Design Team, the Data Specialist role will provide subject matter expertise and support to this Data and Insight work package.

What a day might look like for you

At the RSPCA, no two days are the same and within this role, you will find each day rewarding and challenging, as you will take responsibility for performing analysis and presenting options assessments and recommendations to the Executive Leadership Team, Senior Leadership Group, steering groups and other governance forums to inform senior and strategic decision making.

You will work closely with our existing Integrated Design Managers to ensure that all teams across the organisation who have an involvement in the collecting, processing and analysing of data have the opportunity to input into this piece of work.

You will work to identify and coordinate an approach to measuring data maturity at the RSPCA to benchmark the current state and track progress.

You will collaborate with relevant members of the Society to collate proposals, costs, options, enablers and impact assessments to inform recommendations.

As a strategically-minded subject matter expert, you will balance the strategic ambition of the organisation against the practicalities of making the necessary changes and the impact on the teams involved.

What makes a great Integrated Design Manager - Data Specialist?

It is vital that our Integrated Design Manager - Data Specialist can evidence in their application that they have experience of approaching a large project holistically; they must have experience of leading on projects at a strategic level.

Ideally, our appointed candidate will have experience of working within the charity sector, so that they fully understand the RSPCA's drivers behind the effective use of data and insight.

We are keen to receive applications from candidates who also have:

  • Experience in Information Systems or related area.
  • Expertise in identifying and specifying the technological functionality required to support data related objectives.
  • The ability to confidently communicate, especially in terms of simplifying technical concepts for a broad audience.
  • Proven technical knowledge of database structures, querying and visualisation tools and data architecture.
  • The ability to build and maintain good working relationships enterprise-wide, at all levels, to improve collaboration and implement culture & behaviour changes within the organisation.
  • Proven planning skills, with the ability to create and communicate plans at all levels, facilitating understanding and winning support for delivery.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Experience of working with multiple large data sets in a complex business environment.
  • Experience of leading the exploitation of enterprise level BI and Insight solutions.
  • Experience of using and exploiting relational databases, intelligence gathering and analysing data to produce reports
  • Confidence and skills in the manipulation and visualisation of data for reporting and analysis purposes.
  • A good understanding of data and information security standards and legislation/regulation.

If you are keen to make a real difference to the future of data and insight at the RSPCA, we would love to receive your application.

Interviews will take place remotely during the week commencing the 20th of May 2024.

Final note from us & good luck with your application!

We are really lucky that some of our roles attract a high level of interest and for this reason we review applications as they are received, unfortunately on some occasions this means roles may close earlier than advertised; so early submissions are highly recommended.

We want to ensure we do all we can to give you a positive candidate experience through our recruitment. Whilst we do try to give feedback where we can, sometimes due to receiving high levels of applications, this may not always be possible

We recognise that a diverse and inclusive workforce is essential to achieving our core mission. For this reason we actively encourage a wide diversity of applications - in particular from members of minority ethnic groups, and people with disabilities - as these candidates are currently under-represented at the RSPCA.

Should you need any support with your application or interview process please contact resourcingteam@rspca.org.uk

Our mission is to ensure animals have a good life by rescuing and caring for those in need, by advocating on behalf of all animals and by inspiring everyone to treat them with compassion and respect
