A bit About us

RSPCA Assured is celebrating 30 years of improving the lives of farmed animals.

In that time, we're proud to have worked with thousands of farmers - and all of the UK's biggest supermarkets - to help make the lives of millions of animals better.

Every year, we inspect almost 4,000 farms and other scheme members to ensure they meet strict RSPCA animal welfare standards - ensuring a better life for farm animals.

So when you see an RSPCA Assured label on meat, fish, eggs or milk products, it means the animal was cared for according to the RSPCA's standards from birth to slaughter.

Our vision is a world where all farmed animals are respected and treated with kindness and compassion - and that's what we work towards every day.

We now have a very exciting, newly created vacancy as Welfare Improvement Manager.

Contract: Permanent

Working hours: 35 hours per week; Monday to Friday.

Location: Hybrid worker- You will be required to travel from home to our London hub for meetings up to once per month, but are welcome to work in the office as frequently as you like! Infrequent travel to other parts of the UK may be required as part of your role for meetings, events and in building relationships with our members and partners.

As our Welfare Improvement Manager, you will be at the forefront of our mission to continuously elevate the standards of animal welfare on RSPCA Assured farms, spanning all species. You will spearhead the development and oversight of our welfare improvement function, ensuring a robust and evidence based approach to enhancing the lives of millions of farmed animals.

What a day might look like for you

We will look to our Welfare Improvement Manager to reimagine and drive the implementation of a sector leading Welfare Outcomes Strategy for farmed animals; to revolutionise data collection, analysis, reporting and how we engage others in our story of impact.

You will lead and inspire the Welfare Outcomes Team, fostering a culture of excellence in data analysis and the generation of actionable welfare insights.

A key part of the role will be to ensure there is effective alignment of welfare improvement initiatives across all areas of our ambitious species growth strategy and the wider RSPCA by championing the use of data and advanced analytics to provide clear, accessible insights into welfare outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.

As Welfare Improvement Manager, you will ensure the continuous improvement of welfare measurement through the integration of digital tools, enhancing efficiency and accuracy and you will guarantee that all relevant strategies are firmly rooted in robust data and insightful analysis.

In collaboration with the Head of Impacts & Insights, you will contribute to the development and delivery of an overarching organisational impact measurement framework.

You will drive forward the communication of the tangible benefits of RSPCA Assured membership, building strong partnerships and fostering trust with external stakeholders.

We will look to you to oversee the creation of user friendly dashboards, reports, and communication tools to disseminate vital welfare outcome insights to diverse audiences. You will lead on research and testing initiatives, focused on welfare outcome improvement and, vitally, ensuring successful integration of findings into practical application.

Our Welfare Improvement Manager will champion the importance of welfare outcome improvement, both within the organisation and externally; leading training and engagement activities, building crucial relationships and advocating for higher standards.
